Chhagan Makwana, aged 67 had been undergoing treatment at the Ahmedabad civil hospital since May 10. Makwana’s body was found at the BRTS bus stand in Ahmedabad’s Danilimda on Saturday night. Police officials who found the body lying unclaimed transported it to the city-based VS hospital.

A letter and a mobile phone were recovered from the deceased’s pockets which led police to Makwana’s family members. It was later revealed that Chhagan Makwana was a resident of Rohit Park Society in Ahmedabad’s Danilimda area.

He had tested positive for the novel coronavirus after he experienced trouble breathing and was referred to the civil hospital where doctors collected his samples, family members told the police. Makwana’s family was shocked to learn of his demise. They told police officials that authorities at the civil hospital had said that family members would be informed when he would recover from the infection.

We were even told about him testing positive for Covid-19 during a phone call from the hospital, family members added. Following the phone call, corporation workers had put a board announcing ‘home quarantine’ outside the Makwanas’ residence. In addition, their home was disinfected and all family members were advised 14-day quarantine.
