After a brief respite of about three weeks, Agra reported 12 fresh coronavirus cases, including 2 deaths on Friday, pushing the city’s Covid-19 tally to 1,020.
With 2 more fatalities — a 54-year-old man and 64-year-old woman — Agra has recorded 58 deaths due to the contagious virus since March.
According to sources, most of the patients who died from Covid-19 had comorbid conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and breathing issues.
“12 new Covid-19 cases were reported on Friday, taking the total number of positive cases in the city to 1,020. Out of these, 849 have recovered and 58 have died,” District Magistrate Prabhu N Singh told India Today.
“Till date, 16,196 samples have been taken in Agra,” Singh added.
According to a senior doctor at Agra District Hospital, the biggest threat to the city are asymptomatic patients who are testing positive.
“The biggest threat to the city are asymptomatic patients who are testing positive for the virus. This has become a major block to combat Covid-19. Due to this, contact histories of all positive patients are being traced irrespective of being asymptomatic to contain the spread of the disease,” the senior doctor told India Today.
Another doctor told India Today that several asymptomatic patients were tested positive for Covid-19 after the contact tracing process. 45 per cent of these patients remained completely healthy before being discharged, the doctor added.
Senior physician Dr. SK Kalra, while talking to India Today, recommended a few ways to boost immunity in order to fight the deadly virus.
“It is an imperative to improve food habits, especially for elderly, to fight the disease. Fruits, green vegetables, and pulses should be included in the diet. Moreover, herbal tea, lukewarm water and turmeric milk should be consumed often. Apart from this, avoiding unnecessary outings, wearing masks, and keeping a distance of at least 1 metre is a prerequisite to avoid getting infected,” Kalra told India Today.
Meanwhile, fresh coronavirus cases were reported in various districts of Agra.
In Mathura, the total number of Covid-19 cases has surged to 135, with two new positive cases reported on Friday.
In Mainpuri, 13 new cases were found, taking the Covid tally to 117, Out of which 50 have recovered and 63 are under treatment.
In Firozabad, with two new cases — both health workers — the total number of positive cases has reached 359.
Agra divisional commissioner Anil Kumar told India Today that every district in Agra division is being closely monitored and the government will take strict action if any laxity is shown in treating Covid-19 patients.
