NEW DELHI: India registered its highest single-day spike of Covid-19 cases on Sunday with 8,380 new infections reported in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s tally to 1,82,143, while the death toll rose to 5,164, according to the Union health ministry. As many as 86,983 people have recovered and one patient has migrated.

DELHI
- People in Delhi’s Dwarka staged a protest on Sunday due to water shortage in the area, residents claimed that despite complaining to the Jal Board multiple times, their problem has not been solved yet.
- The Deputy commissioner, Faridabad, has said that until Haryana govt’s new directions come, existing directions will continue to remain in effect. Delhi HC & Haryana HM had issued certain guidelines, inter-dist & inter-state movement will continue based on them. New directions will come by tomorrow.
- Delhi govt has sought Rs 5,000 crore as assistance from Centre as there is shortage of revenue: Deputy CM Manish Sisodia.
- Delhi Metro is warming up with signal testing and trial runs with an aim to find a simple answer to — “how to maintain social distancing in a service that otherwise witnesses clogged coaches and swamped station premises.”
- Meanwhile, malls in the NCR region, which will be allowed to open from June 8 in all the non containment zones also have started their reopening plans.
- A 54-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector of Delhi Police died due to Covid-19, making it the second casualty in the force due to the infection, officials said on Sunday.

MUMBAI
- Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has allowed class 10 & 12 students to change exam centre and appear for pending exams during compartmental tests.
- In the last 24 hours, 91 police personnel have tested positive for Covid-19. Total number of positive cases in Maharashtra Police rises to 2,416 with death toll at 26. 1,421 cases are active, says Maharashtra Police.
- Sunday saw people buying vegetables, fruits and fish at Lalbaug market, Matunga LJ Road and Makkawadi in Mumbai.
- As per Maharashtra govt’s guideline for its employees, all employees & visitors will be screened through thermal scanner before entering office. All employees will have to wear 3 ply mask or surgical mask while working in office.

AHMEDABAD
- Ahmedabad Metro services to stay shut.
- From Monday, economic activity outside containment areas can continue until 7pm instead of 4pm allowed in Lockdown 4.0. Also, the night curfew timings have been truncated which will be in force only from 9pm to 5 am from Monday instead of 7 am to 7 pm in Lockdown 4.0.
- Forty-five members of the health team of the civic body have been compensated Rs 6.4 lakh after they contracted Covid-19 during duty.
- Cyber Police Station of the city has lodged a complaint agasint a man who had spread false rumour on social media that lock down would be increased by 14 days in Surat and Ahmedabad.
- Odd-even system has been removed. All shops can reopen at once; social distancing mandatory.

CHANDIGARH
- Lockdown leads to seizure of 2,179 kg drugs in Haryana.
- Two more Covid-19 positive cases reported in Bapu Dham Colony today. They are contacts of a positive case. The total number of positive cases in Chandigarh now stands at 291, including 88 active cases, reports ANI quoting Public Relations Department, Chandigarh.
- The power connections of five people who flouted home-quarantine norms have been disconnected on the orders of the Muktsar district administration, while show-cause notices have been issued to 67 violators in Punjab asking why power should not be discontinued to their residences.
- The vegetable and fruit market will be shifted back from the bus stand in Sector 17 to its original site in Sector 26 in the coming week, ending the month-long stopgap arrangement that was made following a spurt in Covid-19 cases in neighbouring Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26.

LUCKNOW
- Uttar Pradesh government will issue the guidelines for Unlock 1 in the state on Sunday, said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath while adding that social distancing and masks are mandatory. “Today after 2pm, we will issue the guidelines for Unlock 1 in the state. Intra-state bus and taxi services will resume. Mass gatherings will remain prohibited. Social distancing and masks are mandatory,” said Adityanath.
- Congress leader and former legislator Pradeep Mathur has urged Railways Minister Piyush Goyal to announce a relief package for porters hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic or provide them a financial aid of at least Rs 10,000 per month.
- The district administration has started preparing for the possible locust attack in the city, as the swarm has already arrived at Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. “The swarm of locust flying from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, has reached Uttar Pradesh. District Authority and State government are prepared to control the attack of locust and have warned people. We have also trained the farmers about how to save their crops,” said Dr Sunil Kumar Singh, District Agriculture Officer.
- The Allahabad High Court will begin to function as usual from June 8.

HYDERABAD

- Residents of Laxminagar in Picket heaved a sigh of relief as no more Covid-19 cases were identified in this area. Laxminagar, which falls under the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB), got its first case on May 22, after a constable who lives in this area tested positive.

BENGALURU
- The pandemic has hit almost all businesses, particularly the automobile industry because of which there is a dip in the sales of vehicles. With not many registrations happening, the regional transport offices (RTOs) are not generating good revenue.
- The jolt that the Covid-19 pandemic has rendered on the lifestyle of the people is seismic in scale – large-scale unemployment and reduction in pay being two of the most tangible indicators of its effect on the financial condition of the populace.
- Public accounts committee (PAC) chairman and Congress MLA HK Patil is mulling moving a privilege motion against speaker Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri for denying permission to members to visit government-run quarantine centres and Covid-19 hospitals to check the quality of medical equipment.
- Vehicular movement continues in the state and some shops open as the state govt yesterday announced that there will be no complete lockdown on Sunday.

KOLKATA
- The flight count at Kolkata airport is set to shoot up from only 11 at present to 75 from Monday. The number of flights is exactly a third of the 225 domestic flights that operated from Kolkata prior to the lockdown.
- Even as the Centre’s new lockdown guidelines state that religious institutions are set to reopen from June 8, the Kamakhya Temple management has said that it is not in favour of opening the temple premises till July, keeping in mind the rising number of Covid-19 cases.
- All personnel of the armed forces and central paramilitary travelling to Assam on deployment will have to complete the mandatory quarantine period before joining duty.
- Assam boosts testing capacity, eyes over 10,000 tests a day.
- The traders’ association at New Market has nominated three shopkeepers in each of the seven blocks in the market to oversee and ensure that everyone — shopkeepers, staff and customers — adhere to norms laid down by KMC to prevent the virus spread.
- New Market, which had shut after business hours on March 20, will reopen on June 1. The business hours have been fixed from 10am to 6pm. The rest of the market, comprising the vegetable section and spices, meat, fish and chicken range, will continue to function from 7am to 6pm. The entry gate will shut at 5.30pm.
- Manipur reports 4 new Covid-19 positive cases, taking the tally to 66. Number of active cases stand at 59.

- As several guest workers have returned to their native places, textile industry is facing a huge labour shortage, said Jagadesh Chandran, vice president of the South India Spinners Association (SISPA).
- Tamil Nadu government has ordered opening of BC and MBC welfare hostels from June 11 for students appearing for board exams. Class 10 exams are scheduled to start from June 15.
- A woman doctor, handling Covid-19 patients at JIPMER, is among nine new cases of the infection reported in Puducherry on Sunday, the health department said, cautioning that the contagion was intense in some areas here and asking people to stay home.
