Delhi Police on Sunday said that Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Anil Chaudhary was detained in his house for violating social distancing norms.
DCP East of Delhi Police said that Anil Chaudhary and few Congress workers were affecting “law and order” situation in Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border amid nationwide lockdown over coronavirus crisis.
“Yesterday and today morning, Anil Chaudhary and few Congress workers created law and order problems in the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border. They were at the border with the migrants without wearing masks nor social distancing norms were followed. This is making the situation worse. There is a procedure to send migrants home which was not followed,” DCP East of Delhi Police.
Delhi Police also said that a legal action maybe taken against Anil Chaudhary and his supporters.
“We are thinking that legal action should be taken on them. In the name of feeding the migrants, they are helping them cross border,” DCP East of Delhi Police said.
In a video tweet earlier, Anil Chaudhary said Delhi Police are at his place and they have informed him that he is being detained. He said the police officials told him that he is not allowed to step outside his home.
He said the police, however, have not given any details on why he is being detained at his residence.
