Google Pixel global shipments hit 7.2 million in 2019, crossing OnePlus: IDC – Latest News | Gadgets Now

NEW DELHI: Market research company IDC has revealed that Google had shipped 7.2 million Pixel phones in 2019 and now it ships more Pixel units globally than OnePlus.

“Google continues to expand the Pixel portfolio and sales are growing. In 2019 shipments grew 52% YoY to reach the highest volume ever, with strong performances in the USA, Western Europe and Japan. It now ships more units than OnePlus but it is still far from reaching Top10,” said Francisco Jeronimo, associate VP, devices EMEA, IDC.

Meanwhile, OnePlus is among the top premium brands in India and is said to have shipped over 2 million phones in India alone, as per a report by Counterpoint Research. Having said that note that the
Pixel 4 series phones were not launched in India.

Explaining the reason for the growth in Pixel phones, Jeronimo said in another tweet, “Pixel 3a & Pixel 4 sold fewer units in the 1st two-quarters of sales than Pixel3. However:

– the 2nd Q of sales for Px3 was 1Q2019

– Google launched Px3a & 4 in 2019. Weaker launches but the full impact was in 2019

– Google expanded Pixel portfolio to 3 new markets”

Meanwhile, Google is gearing up to launch its affordable Pixel 4a smartphone soon and it is expected that Google will launch the
Pixel 4a in India too, unlike the Pixel 4.

The Google Pixel 4a is said to come with a 5.81-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 1080×2340 pixel resolution. The device is expected to be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 processor with Adreno 618 GPU and Titan M security chip. The Google Pixel 4a is said to come with optional dual SIM functionality and sport a 12.2MP single-lens camera with LED flash, Dual PD autofocus, OIS, EIS, and 4K video recording. The device is also expected to house an 8MP front camera with an ultra-wide lens.
