CHENNAI: Harbhajan Singh will not travel with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) squad to Dubai on Friday.
One understands that he told the franchise that his mother is unwell and that’s why he can’t travel. It is likely that the off-spinner will join in two weeks.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) kicks off in the UAE on September 19.
The 40-year-old offie had already skipped the ongoing Chennai Super Kings’ five-day camp in the city along with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and pacer Shardul Thakur.
Thakur though has joined the squad on Wednesday while Jadeja is expected to arrive in the city on Thursday.
The brief CSK camp will end on Thursday and it was learnt that captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was immensely satisfied with the side’s preparations at the MA Chidambaram Stadium here for the upcoming IPL.
The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) had prepared two pitches – red-soil and clay – for the team and Dhoni, who recently retired from international cricket, seemed to be happy with the wickets.
“The red soil is a typical Chepauk wicket which has a bit of turn while the clay wicket is a little greenish suited for pacers. Dhoni was really impressed with the wickets,” a source told TOI.
CSK players test negative
Meanwhile, all the CSK players have tested negative for the Covid-19 tests conducted on Tuesday. It was the second round of tests held before the squad’s impending departure for UAE on Friday.
