Hartalika Teej 2020 Date, Time & Significance – Times of India


NEW DELHI: Hartalika Teej Vrat 2020 will be observed on Friday, August 21, 2020. As per Hindu Panchang, the festival of Hartalika Teej is celebrated on during the Shukla Paksha Tritiya of the Bhadrapada month (August-September). On Hartalika Teej Vrat day, devotees (mostly married women) worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati by preparing idols made with wheat or sand. The vrat of Hartalika Teej is observed for marital bliss and progeny.
The word Hartalika is made of two word – ‘Harat’ means ‘abduction’ and ‘Aalika’ means ‘female friend’. As per legend, the friends of Goddess Parvati took her to the deep forest so that her father does not forces her to marry Lord Vishnu against her will.

Hartalika Teej Vrat is also called as Gowri Habba in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The women observe Swarna Gowri Vratha on this day to get blessing of Goddess Gowri.
