Nick Kyrgios has slammed Alexander Zeverv and labelled him selfish after a video footage of the German tennis star went viral on social media in which he was seen partying at a crowded private club in Monte Carlo at a time when he was supposed to isolate himself.

Alexander Zverev had said last week he would be in self-isolation after several players who participated in the Adria Tour, organised by Novak Djokovic, were tested positive for the Covid-19.

While Zverev tested negative for Covid-19, he apologised for his participation and promised to follow quarantine guidelines and was expected to be in quarantine for 14 days.

However, Alexander Zverev’s ‘wildly self-centered act’ has added to the uncertainty in the tennis fraternity which is taking baby steps towards resumption after the Covid-19 pandemic brought the sporting world to a grinding halt.

In an Instagram post, Kyrgios lambasted Zeverv, saying he should have the “audacity” to isolate himself after announcing on Twitter.

“I see more controversial things happening around the world, but one thing that stuck out for me was seeing Sasha Zverev, again man, again. How selfish can you be? How selfish can you be?

“If you have the audacity to put out a tweet that you made your management f—ing write on your behalf saying you’re going to self-isolate for 14-days, and apologising to the general public for putting their health at risk – at least have the f—ing audacity to stay inside for 14 days. My god.

“Have your girlfriend with you for 14 days. This tennis world’s p—ing me off, seriously. How selfish can you all get?”

Alexander Zverev has been slammed on social media by the tennis fraternity for being ‘selfish’ in breaking the quarantine rules shortly after top tennis stars, including Djokovic, tested positive for Covid-19 following the Adria Tour.

The calamitous Adria Tour

At a time when social distancing has become a norm, the event organised in the Balkan region by Djokovic saw packed stands, players hugging, basketball matches and fist-pumping, kids’ day programs and players partying at a club as if it was pre-Covid-19 times.

The second leg of the Adria was cancelled before the final match on June 21 while the final leg in Bosnia was called off after the positive Covid-19 test results came out.

Djokovic, initially had defended himself against criticism over Adria Tour, arguing that “it’s hard to explain to people that the situation is really, really different maybe in America or the UK than it is in Serbia or surrounding countries”.

However, after it emerged that fellow players and himself contracted the noval coronavirus, Djokovic’s stance changed.

“We believed the tournament met all health protocols and the health of our region seemed in good condition to finally unite people for philanthropic reasons. We were wrong and it was too soon,” Djokovic said.
