Reiterating his stand on jobs for locals, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday directed the administration to prepare a region-wise list of skilled and unskilled labourers. Officials have been asked to ensure that local youngsters are informed well in advance on the availability of jobs in their respective departments.
CM Thackeray reviewed the progress of ongoing metro rail projects in Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur as well as the Trans Harbour Link between Nhava-Sheva and Sewri through a video conference. He pointed out that there has been a shortage of manpower for these projects after migrant labourers left the state in wake of the novel coronavirus outbreak.
He reiterated that the administration should not depend on the return of migrants to resume work on these projects.
While talking to reporters after attending the Business Advisory Committee meeting of the state legislature, CM Uddhav Thackeray said that the government is mulling imposition of another statewide lockdown if the people do not adhere to precautionary norms.
“We have allowed the people to go for a walk so that they can stay fit. I have noticed that they are creating unhealthy conditions for themselves by not following the physical distancing norms,” Thackeray said.
CM Uddhav Thackeray also said that the state government has requested the Centre once again to resume local train services in Mumbai for frontline workers.
