Kamala picks Pioneer as Secret Service code name – Times of India

WASHINGTON: Kamala HarrisSecret Service code name will be “Pioneer.”
In a nod to her own path-breaking advance as the first Black/Indian-American vice-presidential nominee, Harris picked Pioneer from a list approved by the White House Communications Agency for Secret Service call sign.
Candidates are known to choose code names or call sign that resonate with them personally. Barack Obama, for instance, chose “Renegade” to signal his anti-establishment credentials and former First Lady Michelle Obama was “Renaissance.”
President Donald Trump‘s Secret Service code name is “Mogul,” while Joe Biden has retained “Celtic” which he had when he was vice-president.
Harris’ choice of Pioneer came on the centenary of the US Constitution’s 19th Amendment that gave women the right to vote.
“100 years ago today the 19th Amendment was ratified, but many Black women and women of color were unable to exercise their constitutional right for decades. I would not be the Democratic candidate for Vice President without those who fought and paved the way before me. Vote.” Harris tweeted.

On his part, President Trump announced on Tuesday that he would posthumously pardon Susan B. Anthony, a leader in the women´s suffrage movement who was arrested and convicted for illegally voting in 1872 when only men could vote.
The move was seen to be aimed at staunching the loss of the female votes – a major concern among Republican lawmakers.
Trump has repeatedly denigrated Harris from the time Biden picked her as a running made, describing her “nasty,” “mad” and “angry” in what is seen as sexist stereotypes.
Excoriated by Michelle Obama at the DNC, Trump lashed out at her on Tuesday, saying, “Somebody please explain to @MichelleObama that Donald J. Trump would not be here, in the beautiful White House, if it weren’t for the job done by your husband, Barack Obama.”
