An 82 years-old war widow has donated Rs 2 lakh from her savings to the PM CARES fund to fight the coronavirus crisis.
Darshan Devi, who belongs to a remote village near Kedarnath in Uttarakhand, lost her husband, a Havildar in the Indian Army, in the 1965 Indo-Pakistan war. She was 22-years-old then.
She made her Rs 2 lakh contribution to the PM CARES fund through the local authorities in Uttarakhand’s remote village that she resides in.
Moved by the octogenarian’s gesture, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Bipin Rawat said that the force is proud of Darshan Devi and added that many of us need to follow the “fine example” she has set.
“This the army that was of yesteryears and this will be the army we will proud of in the future with the change we are striving to achieve,” CDS Bipin Rawat said.
“We are proud of Shrimati Darshani Devi. Many of us need to follow the fine example she has set.” he said, adding “If we cannot contribute let us at least pay our taxes and not find means to avoid them.”
