Congress sends MLAs to a private resort ahead of Rajya Sabha polls

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Congress on Wednesday convened a meeting of its MLAs and Independents supporting the party at a resort ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections due on June 19 even as it expressed apprehensions of a plot to “destabilise the popularly elected government in the state.”
Sources in the Congress said the move came after the party received information that Congress MLAs were being “approached with attractive offers.”
Congress chief whip in the assembly Mahesh Joshi approached the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Wednesday, seeking investigation into charges of inducements being offered to his party MLAs. He, however, did not name any party or people behind the alleged move.
Joshi, in his compliant to DG ACB, said: “We have received information form reliable sources that after Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, Congress MLAs and MLAs supporting the government are being offered inducements as part of a design to destabilise the popularly elected state government.”
The Congress MLAs were asked to come to the chief minister’s official residence at 8 Civil Lines. Later, they were shifted in buses to a posh resort on the outskirts of Jaipur.
