TIRUPATI: The TirumalaTirupati Devasthanams received Rs 25.7 lakh in the form of hundi collection on Monday, the first day of the reopening of the temple.
The coffers of the richest temple body in the country had dried up, besides a revenue loss of close to Rs 200 crore every month, following the closure of the temple since March 20 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The temple reopened on Monday after the easing of lockdown norms and after three days of trial run – only TTD employees and their family members were allowed access on the first two days while Tirumala locals would be allowed in on Wednesday – will open for general public from June 11.
Temple sources said over 12,000 people, all TTD employees and their family members, had darshan of Lord Venkateswara on the first two days. Meanwhile, the online quota of 60,000 special entry darshan tickets, priced at Rs 300 each, got exhausted within 24 hours. The online quota, which has been fixed at 3,000 tickets per day, were released for June.
