With 49 new Covid-19 cases, Assam on Friday recorded its highest single-day spike in infections, which took the state’s tally to 256.
Out of the new cases, 26 positive cases have been reported from Sarusajai Stadium quarantine centre in Guwahati, seven from Cachar district, six from Sonitpur district, two cases from Sivasagar district, and one case each from Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital, Guwahati, Silchar Medical College Hospital, Hailakandi, and Udalguri district.
Earlier, on May 19, the state had reported 42 positive cases of Covid-19 and registered the highest single-day spike in infections. However, Friday’s cases broke the record to be the highest single-day spike.
Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that 26 people who are under quarantine at Sarusajai stadium quarantine centre have tested positive.
“In the biggest one-time spike in cases, 26 cases are confirmed #COVID19 +. They are all from Sarusajai Quarantine Centre. Total cases 256.” Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a tweet.

In his latest tweet, the health minister said that three more Covid-19 cases have been detected from Nagaon, Sivasagar, and Tinsukia.

On Thursday, 25 Covid-19 cases were reported in the state.
Assam has so far reported four coronavirus-related deaths, while, 54 Covid-19 patients in the state have been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
The state now has 195 active Covid-19 positive cases.
