Government Should Use PM CARES Fund to Build Schools: Abhijit

Delhi Following the revelation that over ₹8,400 crore is lying in PM CARES Fund accounts, CJP founder Abhijit Deepke has demanded that the government utilize these funds to upgrade and repair government schools that are in a dilapidated state. There are lakhs of government schools across the country where children study under leaking roofs. Basic amenities—such as fans for the summer heat and toilets for students—need to be provided, and playgrounds should be constructed for their holistic development. If the government's intentions are genuine, this sum of ₹8,400 crore could fund the construction of over a thousand government schools equipped with modern facilities. Currently, CJP is vigorously auditing government schools across various parts of the country under its 'Vidyalaya Theek Karo' (Fix the Schools) mission.

The issue of the PM CARES Fund, established in 2020, has once again come into the spotlight. A CAG report has revealed that more than ₹8,400 crore remains deposited in banks within this private fund, generating substantial interest income. This fund was created as a private entity during the COVID-19 emergency, yet the fact that it was a private fund was kept under wraps. PM Modi himself spearheaded the branding of the fund, appealing to citizens through advertisements to provide financial assistance during a time of crisis. Seeing the 'Three Lions' emblem and PM Modi in the advertisements led people to believe it was a government fund; consequently, everyone contributed according to their means, assuming it was a state-run initiative. At the time, the government urged people to contribute to help the nation battle the severe and incurable coronavirus. No one had the slightest inkling that it was actually a private fund. Questions were raised by some regarding why a new fund was created when the 'PM National Relief Fund' already existed, but the government did not deem it necessary to provide a satisfactory explanation.
