NEW DELHI: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who is on a mission to unite the opposition parties against the BJP, on Wednesday said she cannot predict about the leader of the proposed alliance as she is not a political astrologer.
The West Bengal chief minister said the issue of leadership would depend on the situation and structure and added that she has no problem if someone else leads the alliance.
“I want to help all the opposition parties to bell the cat. I don’t want to be a leader, but a simple cadre,” Mamata said when asked about her being the face of the opposition alliance.
“When the matter is discussed we can decide. I cannot impose. I am a simple worker and want to continue as a worker,” Mamata said on the leadership issue.
‘Situation more serious than the Emergency’
On the Pegasus row, the West Bengal chief minister said the situation in the country is very serious, more serious than the Emergency.
“Everywhere they are sending ED, IT for raids. Here there is no response. In a democracy, the government has to respond,” she said.
“I want to see sachcha din, bahut din acha din dekh liya,” Mamata added, in a jibe at BJP’s poll slogan.
Yesterday, she had urged the Prime Minister to order a Supreme Court monitored probe into the Pegasus snooping allegations.
Mamata is on a visit to the national capital, the first after her emphatic victory over the BJP in the assembly elections, and has a series of political meetings lined up.
On Day 1 of her trip, she had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Later speaking to reporters, she called it a courtesy call.
She had also met senior Congress leaders Kamal Nath and Anand Sharma.
Today she is meeting interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
