With 108 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) saw the highest single-day spike in Covid-19 infections on Thursday.

Of the 108, while 22 new cases have been reported from Jammu, 86 patients tested positive for coronavirus in Kashmir, taking the total tally to 1121.

The new novel coronavirus cases also include 13 pregnant women. This is the highest spike in the Covid-19 numbers so far. A total of 542 people have recovered.

According to news agency PTI, a man from Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir has become the 12th fatality from Covid-19 in the Union Territory, officials said on Saturday.

The person, hailing from Chadoora area of the central Kashmir district, died at SKIMS hospital in Soura area of the city here on Saturday, Medical Superintendent Farooq Jan told PTI.

Jan said the patient was admitted to the hospital on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday after he complained of heart problems.

However, the health ministry has not updated fresh numbers on its website.
