Bollywood filmmaker Nishikant Kamat passed away today at a city hospital in Hyderabad. The 50-year old filmmaker had been diagnosed with Chronic Liver Disease and other secondary infections. Riteish Deshmukh confirmed the same on Twitter and shared, “I will miss you my friend. #NishikantKamat Rest In Peace.” Previously, Riteish had shared that the filmmaker was fighting for life and had prayed for his recovery. Nishikant Kamat was known for directing Bollywood films like the Ajay Devgn and Tabu starrer ‘Drishyam’, and Irrfan Khan’s ‘Madaari’. He has also worked with John Abraham in two films, ‘Force’ and ‘Rocky Handsome’.

Nishikant Kamat was also a very popular director of Marathi films. He had called the shots for hits like Riteish Deshmukh starrer ‘Lai Bhaari’ as well as Swwapnil Joshi’s ‘Fugay’. A close friend of Nishikant, Sharad Kelkar had previously told ETimes, “Nishikant was one of those friend who gave me chance to work in ‘Lai Bhaari’. Rather than director, he was a very good friend of mine. We know each other from last 13 to 14 years. He has a very special place in my life.”

Earlier the hospital had shared in a statement, “Mr Nishikant Kamat (50 years, male) was brought to AIG hospitals, Gachibowli, Hyderabad on 31st July with jaundice and abdominal distention. He has been diagnosed with Chronic Liver Disease and other secondary infections. He is in the Intensive Care Unit for continuous monitoring under supervision of a multi-disciplinary team of senior consultants comprising of gastroenterologists, hepatologist, critical care and others. His condition is critical but stable.”
