A petition was filed in the Rajasthan High Court on Wednesday against state tourism minister Vishvendra Singh for appearing in public without wearing a mask.
The petition was filed by lawyer Poonam Chand Bhandari.
In the plea, Bhandari accused Vishvendra Singh of visiting a public place in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district without wearing a mask.
Wearing of mask in public has been made mandatory by the Rajasthan High Court in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.
Advocate Bhandari, apart from state of Rajasthan and tourism minister Vishvendra Singh, made DGP Bhupendra Yadav, Bharatpur DIG Laxman Gaur and Bharatpur SP Hyder Ali Jaidi as respondents in the case.
Advocate Bhandari also accused the police of not registering an FIR and so filed the criminal petition under Section 482 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
He also alleged that he received threatening calls after he gave his complaint to the police.
India Today spoke with the Rajasthan Tourism minister Vishvendra Singh about the petition.
“I have heard about the petition filed in the court against me,” Vishvendra Singh said.
Vishvendra Singh is a senior cabinet minister in the Ashok Gehlot government and is considered a confidante of Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot.
