LUCKNOW: Three people were arrested late on Monday for allegedly shooting Ballia-based TV journalist Ratan Singh, 45, in Phephna area of the district earlier in the day. Journalists from entire district sat on a protest at national highway and raised slogans against the police after the killing.
Additional chief secretary Awanish Awasthi said three accused — Arvind Singh, Dinesh Singh and Suneel Singh— were neighbours of the slain journalist and the murder was a result of an old land dispute. ADG (law and order) Prashant Kumar said Ratan had a land dispute with his neighbour, Dinesh Singh. “On Monday, they had a verbal dispute which took an ugly turn and Dinesh shot the Ratan and fled away,” said Kumar.
