Police from Southeast Delhi’s Govindpuri have arrested two men who were trying to illegally tranport migrant labourers from Delhi to Bihar in their bus on a forged e-pass.
The two accused were identified as Manish Kumar Jha, a resident of Nangloi, Delhi, and Sharvan Kumar, a resident of Govindpuri, Delhi.
During the intervening night of May 18-19, a police team was patrolling the area. Around 11.45 pm, police reached near Aggarwal Sweets, Pocket-8 Market, Okhla Estate Road in Govindpuri. The cops saw that some migrant labourers were boarding in a tourist bus with a UP number plate.
On being enquired, the owner Sharvan Kumar Jha and driver Manish Kumar Jha said that all the people inside the bus worked in Tughalkabad extension and wanted to go their hometown Kishanganj in Bihar.
51 migrant labourers were already sitting inside the bus. SI Devender Singh asked the driver and owner to show a valid e-pass for the journed issued by the competent authority. They produced an e-pass, issued by the office of Shahadra DM. When this e-pass was checked, it was found to be forged.
Moreover, no passenger had a medically-fit certificate. It was also learnt that the accused charged Rs 4,000 from each passenger. Hence, the two violated the prohibitory orders to prevent the movement of the migrant labours, issued by the ACP Kalkaji.
Accordingly, a case was registered under the Epidemic Disease Act and an investigation was initiated. Further investigation of the case is in progress.
