LUCKNOW: As total active cases continued on their downward trend in Uttar Pradesh, the state government has announced opening of multiplex, cinema halls, gyms and stadiums from Monday, July 5.
The permission to open, said a government spokesperson, would be dependent on adherence to Covid-19 protocols. He added that cinema halls owners had faced massive losses due to the Covid restrictions and the government was ready to assist them in whatever way was possible.
From June 21, the government had permitted the opening of malls, restaurants, bars and street food stalls, subject to a maximum of 50% occupancy. The night curfew timings were also altered to allow for two additional hours. It is now in place from 9 pm to 7 am. The weekend curfew also persists, from 9 pm on Friday to 7 am on Monday.
The spokesperson said that the second wave of Covid-19 was at its least effective state currently, and even with more than 2.5 lakh tests being carried out daily, the positivity rate was less than 1%. On Friday morning, the government reported 2,70,723 tests in the previous 24 hours and 133 new cases of Covid-19.
